Lights Won't

Yarns and materials grown and forged on the land hold profound spiritual and cultural significance. Linen, a durable fiber from the flax plant, boasts a rich history of cultivation and hand weaving in Ukrainian regions for centuries. In addition, copper, sourced around the Dnipro and Dnister Rivers during the Copper Age, was used to create armors, weapons, and decorative objects. It symbolizes peace and prosperity due to its non-corrosive nature. These tapestries map and represent the land and people who fiercely fight for their freedom. I am inspired by the symbolism and the hand woven quality of the flax cloth that traditionally depicts historical and spiritual experiences of the communities in Ukraine.
