Decoding Utopias explores experiences of belonging and intimacy in a form of sonic handwoven surfaces. It meditates on the ways political systems used sound, signals and messages to affect the human body. “Decoding Utopias” strives to reimagine ignorance and complacency to oppressive signals and explore potential that suggests self-care and community-driven action. I collect signals that inflict fear and compliance and opposite signals that treat anxiety, trauma, and PTSD as a way to regain agency and ground the body in the present moment. This project is ongoing and along with suggesting visual experiences of touch that represent sound, I envision incorporating sonic scapes into the fabric.
